In our previous article and exercise, we explored how our home environment operates as a health ecosystem, influencing everything from our respiratory function to our mood to the quality of our sleep. But for most working adults, home is only part of the picture. A significant portion of waking life — often eight to ten hours a day — unfolds somewhere else entirely: an open-plan office, a cubicle, a co-working space, or a home office carved out of a spare bedroom or corner. The environmental forces at work in these spaces are just as real as those at home, and in some cases more acute.

The workplace comes with its own set of variables. Some of them, particularly for those working in employer-controlled offices, lie outside our direct control, but there are elements that are more influenceable or adjustable than we assume.
